UPDATE!!!

YAY! I have finally finshed my paper elephant! I took it home over half term to finish it off and here is a picture of it!

As you know, I made my elephant out of newspaper, cardboard and masking tape. To cover it, I did collage out if old wrapping paper. I mage the tusks out of newspaper and covered it with old envelopes and the ears I covered with the insides of envelopes. He has button eyes and yoghurt pot feet.

I feel like my elephant is quite realistic in its form but not all of it's feet touch the floor. So I have decided to make him a walking, swaying elephant.

The artist that will inspire my final piece is called Gary Harvey.

He makes dresses out of recycled materials. He started at college, when he wasn't able to buy new materials to make dresses. So he decided to make the dresses out of any recycled materials tha the could find. He has become so well known that one of his collections has featured in the New York Fashion Week. He has made dressed out of old army jackets, baseball jackets and even crisp packets, bottle tops and plastic bags! Here are just a few of them!!!



I plan to make my dress out of crisp packets, old dresses and ties. I plan to make a patchwork out of the crips packets and dresses and then loine the top and side with the ties which will be sewn together. I will be starting to make it soon so I will be updating pictures hopefull soon!!!

Gary Harvey uses alot of colour in some of his dresses. For example this Hawaiian shirt dress is simple at the top and then busy at the bottom with big, floral patterns. The whole dress is brightly coloured.

Gary's work addresses recycling and global warming. The dresses are ,made so that models can wear them for fashion shows and fashion shoots!!!
